John Jay put together an array of famous New York style foods to tantalize taste buds for this event. From salty pretzels to street vendor hot dogs and tiers of chocolate cake, there was something for everyone. And it wasn't just about the food! Students also took advantage of the giveaways and had a chance to win great prizes from some of New York's cultural attractions.
What's your style? Of sandwich that is. There were endless options to make the perfect peanut butter sandwich. Bring on the jelly! And the bananas, and the Nutella...
October 11 saw the celebration of Latino Heritage Month with the Sabor Latino event in John Jay. Student groups, Sabor and Quisqueyano, helped put on a lively night of delicious Latin American fare inspired by numerous different countries. To top it off, our live salsa band had people dancing in the aisles!
Dining supports local farms like Red Jacket Orchard. They provided fresh, tasty apples that the John Jay chefs dipped in candy and caramel for students to enjoy. Sweet!
We brought the authentic taste of New York to John Jay. Delicious street vendor dogs plus tons of toppings from the traditional mustard and ketchup to mouthwatering hot peppers made this a meal to remember.
John Jay was transformed into an elegant setting for this annual tradition. Servers in formal black and white kept the turkeys and bottles of ciders coming all night.
What better way to start the home stretch of the fall semester than with your favorite flavors of Ben & Jerry's ice cream in a waffle cone with toppings? Yum.
The swirling paper snowflakes and decadent dessert spread weren't the only things that enticed students out of the cold this December. If the steaming entrees of stuffed potoates and tender roast beef didn't warm you down to your toes, the hot cocoa bar surely did the trick.
There was no better way to prep students' stomachs for the Super Bowl than with all the savory soups offered at John Jay Dining Hall's Souper Bowl event. Whether students were loyal to their favorite or a sampler of many, the bread bowls and toppings made each soup anything but simple.
Students feasted on various Chinese dishes in celebration of the Year of the Rat. Traditional red decorations and a performance by the Lion Dancers helped to start the new year off on the right foot.
One of the most successful events at John Jay to date, the Black Heritage Month event not only pleased the palate but the original poetry of some very talented Columbia students also provided some food for thought.
There were eight different apple varieties available at John Jay's National Nutrition Month Event on March 6, 2008. While packing their pockets full of the healthy treats, students tried to stump our resident dietitian and tested their knowledge of healthy foods and habits.
A highly anticipated event every year, the Food Expo gave students the opportunity to sample a myriad of snacks, desserts, and drinks that could just make it into the retail units. Not only were lots of pockets stuffed with free bags of pretzel crisps and organic snack bars, students also had the chance to win a basket overflowing with goodies.
A crowd favorite, Casino Night is one of the most anticipated nights of the year. Among the mix of activity is a giant boat filled with shrimp (yes, you read that right!), incentives for signing up for next year's Dining Plan, and gambling, gambling, and more gambling!
