Using Your Flex Account Off-Campus

Please note that Westside Market joined the Flex program after this communication was sent to all students.

Dear Students,

I am excited to announce the launch of a new addition to Columbia University’s Flex Account Program. Students and employees are now able to use their Flex Accounts to pay for their purchases off-campus at Nussbaum & Wu (Broadway at 113th Street), and Fairway Market (12th Avenue at 132nd Street). We will be adding additional vendors to the program in the months ahead.

Flex can also be used at the University bookstore, campus copy machines, laundry facilities, vending machines, and at the Housing & Dining Hospitality Desk at 118 Hartley Hall. Dining Dollars is a similar declining balance program that offers tax-free purchases but can only be used for food at the 13 on-campus dining locations. Both Flex and Dining Dollars require a deposit before usage.

You can add funds to your Flex Account in several ways:

* Login to Student Services Online.

* Visit the Housing & Dining Customer Service Center in 118 Hartley Hall (cash, check, Visa, or Mastercard), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

* Visit any of the Value Transfer Stations in the following libraries (cash only): Butler, Uris, Avery, Lehman (IAB), Lehman (Barnard) and Milbank (Teachers College). For library hours, please visit the Libraries website.

Student Services Online (SSOL) is the fastest and most convenient way to add value to your Flex Account. By adding Flex on SSOL, you will charge the cost to your student account, and it will appear on your next Student Account Statement (e-bill). Please be mindful of the payment due date, which appears on your Student Account Statement & “Student Account Detail” of SSOL. If you are unable to add Flex online due to a hold on your student account, you can add value with cash, check, or credit card at the locations listed above.

Note: For your convenience, small shopping carts can be borrowed for two-hour periods from the Housing & Dining Hospitality Desk (118 Hartley Hall), free of charge. The Studebaker Shuttle, which picks up passengers from several campus locations (including Lerner Hall and the Amsterdam gate), stops at the Studebaker Building on 131st Street, a short walk from Fairway Market. For shuttle details (including a schedule), please visit Columbia Transportation .

I’d like to thank and acknowledge the leadership of the Columbia College Student Council & Engineering Student Council for their partnership on this issue. They’ve shared with us the places you’d like to see accept the Flex Account, and we’ve taken the feedback seriously!

Should you have any questions or suggestions for us, please don’t hesitate to contact the Housing & Dining Customer Service Center by phone at (212) 854-2775, or visit Ask Us .

I hope to see you out in the neighborhood!

Sincerely Yours,

Scott J. Wright
